The Late Starter Blog
16th September 2026.
Last week my goal for the week was to set up my Skool community, I didn’t get it done. I’m not going to make excuses, it just didn’t happen. But today I finally did it!
It’s been on my list for a while, in the back of my mind, something I knew I needed to get done ASAP so I can start building a community.
A community of people who are trying to start something, to build something, to do something. People who feel lost in life or have that one thing that they just can’t stop thinking about doing. Those are my people, I am those people.
The people who were told that it’s all down hill after 30, that their life is over. Especially women, women who are told if they don’t have kids by 30 then they’re a failure. Fuck that. I’m on a mission to change that narrative, to show people that life doesn’t end at thirty. Or forty. Or fifty for that matter. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of examples of people who changed their lives after 30, who achieved something incredible after 30, who made a difference after 30.
That’s my goal, to make a difference, to change a life, to change my life. I’m 37, I’ve been trying to start something for four years. Four years of uncertainty, of failure, of not even trying, of giving up.
It’s hard not to look back and wish that you started something sooner, to wonder where you would be by now if you had kept going. I want you to know that I feel it too. But how ridiculous would it be to let the next 40 years of your life pass you by just because you weren’t a success in your 20s? That’s the takeaway.
I can’t make you change, or decide to finally go for it. That’s up to you. But I can show you, lead by example, show you the celebrities who broke through at 50 and 60. Show the ordinary people who smashed records, blazed the trail and put their bodies on the line just to see what it could do.
If you have a dream, something that keeps you up at night because you haven’t started yet. Something beyond the realm of what you think you’re capable of. If you want to surround yourself with like-minded people. People who get it, who also feel self-doubt, who want more for themselves and their families, who can’t get rid of that nagging feeling that they’re meant for more. Those are your people. So come and join them.

I did it!
Yesterday I launched the Better Late Than Lost YouTube channel (@betterlatethanlost2026). I’ve failed on YouTube before - and by failed, I mean I stopped being consistent and then stopped posting altogether. The reason is still difficult for me now. I hate filming and editing myself. My camera face is fatter than I hope my real one is and I’ve always had self esteem issues. So while that is still true, I’m posting anyway. Because if I don’t, then my life will still look exactly the same in 5 years’ time (nothing changes if nothing changes).
I first started trying to make content back in 2022. I posted a handful of videos and a few shorts. I struggled to come up with ideas and hated that I wasn’t immediately good at it (the second part is still relevant too). But here we are. Zero subscribers. 0. They say that’s where everyone starts - because it’s true. But it doesn’t make the process any easier. Doesn’t stop you from wondering where you would be right now if you had just started 4 years ago. It doesn’t stop you wondering how people who are considerably younger than you have been on YouTube for 10 years and what you’d give to have one tenth of the success that they’ve had. But the reason is right there, it’s the 10 years that they’ve been posting and you haven’t. The blood, sweat and tears that you haven’t even begun to pay your dues in. But I’ve started, I pressed record, filmed and edited myself and then uploaded not one, but two videos. I’m not yet ready to make that declaration to anyone I know in real life - so I’m telling you, stranger on the internet, with the hope that me doing it despite the fear and insecurity will inspire you to do something that you’ve been scared to do too, and then to perhaps tell me, your internet stranger, about it.
I’m dreading the day that someone I know messages me, or even worse, tells me in person that they’ve seen one of my videos. But as they say, embarrassment is the price of entry and it’s time for me to pay. When it inevitably happens, I hope I remember that those people aren’t living the life I want for myself and that their negativity comes from their own insecurities and is not a reflection on me. I hope you remember that too. So get up and go do your thing.

One Day or Day One?
I'm sure you've seen that question before, so had I. But recently, I've read (well listened to the Audiobook...) a book that has the potential to change my life. We'll have to wait until September the 1st 2027 to find out. That book was 12 months to $1million - by Ryan Daniel Moran. I would definitely recommend that you read the book if you want to build your own business - and while the book it aimed at product based businesses, as someone who is building a service based business with a couple of digital products. I found it to be very useful for generating ideas. One of which was my own year long experiment. It's called - 1 Year to Unemployment. In which I spend the next 12 months working towards quitting my job. £1million would definitely allow me to do that! I originally read the book in its entirety - eventhough Ryan tells you not to. But I'll be going back and doing the work stage by stage as intended by the author.
Stage 1 - The Grind (months 1-4). This is the brainstorming stage where you identify your target customer and what product you will sell. Here you also secure funding and build proof. The chaper focuses on making quick, imperfect decisions - which is something that I struggle with myself, so that in itself will be a learning curve for me. I already had most of this figured out from previous work that I've done to begin building a business, so the real work for me is going to be doing the things that I know I need to do - like client calls, filming for TikTok and YouTube, networking and putting myself out there and so on.
I will be documenting the whole journey - mostly for accountability purposes. But also for anyone else who needs to make a change in their life. I have never been able to stay consistent when it comes to doing the work. Any time in the past when I've told myself that this is day one - it didn't last long. I am more optimistic this time but who knows what this next year will bring. I will be showing the whole messy, imperfect highs and lows even if it fails - because another thing I need to teach myself is that just because something fails, doesn't mean it wasn't worth doing.
For anyone else who feels stuck, unsure or simply just wants to follow along, I will be documenting everything across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, feel free to come and say hello and tell me what you're looking to build or change in your life. You could even start your own 12 month experiment - I'd love to hear about those.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading.
This is day one, here goes nothing.
